New & Novice Teacher Academy Course 2: Designing High-Quality Learning for ALL Students

Description
Series Description:The New and Novice Teacher Academy is a series of 5 courses designed for teachers in their first to third year of teaching. While each of the 5 courses can stand alone and be completed independently of the others, users are strongly encouraged to complete all 5 courses sequentially as they are linked to each other in spirit and content. The courses are designed to help teachers create inclusive, high-impact learning experiences for a wide range of learners. Each course provides a brief overview of theory and is packed with takeaway strategies that teachers can implement in their classrooms.

Course Description:This is the second course in the New and Novice Teacher Academy. This course explores ways to design instruction to ensure that the lessons you teach are engaging, intentional, coherent, and aligned with your desired outcomes for students. You will learn a model for planning lessons that give all students-regardless of ability- access to meaningful and challenging content.

Objectives:
* Learn a backward planning model that ensures alignment between curriculum, instruction, and assessment,
with a focus on curriculum in this course.
* Learn how alignment between learning targets, learning progressions, and formative assessments leads to
increased student learning.

Audience:K-12 Teachers in their first to third year of teaching, or any teacher looking for a refresher in instructional design or the Backward Planning Model.

Time:This course consists of 3 segments that allow for natural breaks and processing time. It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete course 2.

Presenter:Diana Scarselletta Straut, Ph.d.
