Standards-Based Learning Series Course 1: Unpacking Standards into Learning Levels


Description
Standards-Based Learning (SBL) provides transparency to your students, their families, and your administration to clearly communicate what students have learned and what they need to practice to gain mastery.

In this series, participants will consider how to implement standards-based learning through the lens of a secondary math-content teacher; however, the concept of leveled learning is applicable to teachers in all content areas and grades. The series is generalized and equips teachers, in any content area, to take initial steps in getting started with standards-based learning.

In Course 1, participants will examine Standards-Based Learning, work through evidence-based practices to unpack standards, identify “levels” for learning, and learn assessment practices to begin making your classroom a place for aligned and effective learning.

Series Objectives:
* Gain an understanding of standards-based learning
* Learn how to take initial steps toward creating leveled tasks based on a standard

For Course 1, participants will examine evidence-based practices to unpack standards, identify “levels”, and explore assessment practices to begin to ensure aligned and effective learning.
*What are standards-based learning?
*What does it mean to unpack a standard?
*What does it mean and how can I “level” learning for students in my classroom?
*What are standards referenced learning targets?

This course is part of a 3-part series about Standards-Based Instruction. It is encouraged to engage in all three courses, however, they can stand alone if needed.

Course 1: Unpacking Standards into Learning Levels (60 mins)
Course 2: Leveled Learning: Differentiating for Deeper Learning (90 mins)
Course 3: Assessments for Leveled Learning (60 mins)

Time: Each course takes approximately 60 minutes to complete.
